As part of establishing business in India, First Group International landed a project on operating employee shuttle service for a business park in Pune. Serving about 16 companies, Embassy Tech Zone housed 14,000 employees commuting from across the city of Pune.
Our major responsibilities were to design the bus routes and schedule the shuttle frequency based on the locations of employees, and their work shifts. We also assessed the cost impacts under different operating assumptions.
Additionally, we extended support in pitching the service to various companies in the park and in the mobilisation of the First Group Indian team and office.
Successes and outcomes
Shuttle routes, 6 major served by 32-seater buses and 4 feeder routes served by 9-seater vans, were designed by studying employee location patterns and analysing journey-times. The scheduling and requirement of number of buses was established after a live testing of the routes.
A rolling plan of 3 phases was provided where the number of buses procured and number of employees served would gradually increase.
The client also highly appreciated our support in mobilising the local team and office, and in testing of the mobile app designed for users.
