Bricoman is an international chain store with over 84 premises ranging in size from 5,000 to 10,000m2, specialised in technical products for the construction, renovation and maintenance of houses and workplaces.
In Italy, Bricoman has a strong presence with several stores. The Casetta Mistici store in Rome, which was opened in 2014, is the largest store in the country with a sale area of about 6,500 sqm.
During the design phase of the building, our team produced a mobility study, to analyse the impact of the opening of the new store on the mobility system. Our assessment started with a preliminary analysis of the mobility of the area, carried out through field surveys. Subsequently, we developed a traffic microsimulation model which allowed us to evaluate the outflow conditions and any critical issues, considering both the demand produced by the new store and the existing demand in the area.
Successes and outcomes
Our work provided the developer with guidance on how to optimise the circulation scheme, as well as the access to the car parks. The store is now open and other new structures are being built in the same neighbourhood, completing the urban development forecasts. The circulation and accessibility to the site is optimal, contributing to a pleasant experience for the visitors of this commercial area.
