Ex-Sustrans England Director Carl Pittam joins Steer Davies Gleave

Steer Davies Gleave is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Pittam who will develop our behaviour change, cycling, walking and urban realm capabilities. He joins as an Associate based in our London Planning team.

Carl joins from Sustrans where he was England Director. In this role he was responsible for strategic planning and resourcing of Sustrans’ English regional teams delivering a multi-million pound programme of infrastructure and behaviour change projects. He led Sustrans’ engagement with Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) supporting them as part of DfT’s Transport Delivery Excellence programme, and he developed the charity’s approach to increasing the levels of cycling in London through his work on Greenways, the forerunner of Transport for London’s Quietways programme.

Carl played an influential role in the development of walking and cycling infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games; initiating development of a new River Thames Bridge from Canary Wharf to Rotherhithe. In recognition of his contribution Carl was awarded the London 2012 Sustainability Ambassador Award by LOCOG.

At Steer Davies Gleave he will support the Planning team in creating bespoke solutions for clients in counties, cities, combined authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Sharon Daly, Head of Planning at Steer Davies Gleave said, “Having Carl join our team is a real boon. He has a wealth of experience in delivering results-led sustainable transport programmes. At a time when this is so important to the health and strength of our cities and people – we are ready for another senior leader in the field to join our growing team.”
