Steer Davies Gleave sets new standards for transit information in North America

Central Oklahoma’s Transportation and Parking Authority – EMBARK – recently partnered with Steer Davies Gleave to launch a new website that provides easy-to-use transit information for residents and visitors.

Developed by Steer Davies Gleave, the new site has been designed using responsive technology to work on nearly any device such as smartphones, tablets and desktop computers. The site boasts an interactive schedule interface  that allows users to quickly view bus routes on a Google Map, see route schedules and access real-time information for all stops in the service area. A new bus stop tool allows users to input their work or home address to see what bus stops are available around their destination.

EMBARK’s new site is built on open source technology. From an open source content management system to use of the open source General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) standard, the site is scalable to meet the agency’s current and future needs. Using our experience of developing multimodal, user-focused websites, we helped EMBARK understand what was possible with the powerful GTFS standard. Subsequently, we were able to design and develop EmbarkOk.com  with travel tools that have exceeded the expectations of their customers. The website went live on the 28th April, alongside a complete refresh of Oklahoma City’s transit network. The website has received over 15,000 hits since launch, the majority via mobile devices.

Development of further enhanced customer tools are on-going with the soon-to launch Google-powered multimodal trip planner, a first for Oklahoma City and something that is likely to change the way people make informed transportation decisions.

EMBARK’s Manager of Customer Relations and Technology, Michael Scroggins stated, “The launch of these travel tools will not only create a more confident rider, but will make the system easier to use and accessible.”
